Basketball Recap: Clayton's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Five

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Clayton). They enjoyed a cozy 72-57 win over the Raton Tigers on Tuesday. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Tigers are ranked 31st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Raton still got an impressive performance from Chase Walton, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 boards. Walton is also crushing it when it comes to blocks: he's posted at least three every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Wyatt Berry, who went 7 of 10 en route to 14 points and three steals.

The victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Raton, their defeat was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-4.

Clayton will face off against Maxwell at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Clayton knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Maxwell likes a good challenge. As for Raton, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 68-42 win against Wagon Mound on the 12th.
