Basketball Recap: Georgetown Visitation Prep Wins High-Profile Game Against Maret

On Tuesday, Georgetown Visitation Prep faced Maret in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Georgetown Visitation Prep Cubs managed a 58-54 victory over the Maret Frogs. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Cubs.

Georgetown Visitation Prep's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Madison Doerr led the charge by going 7 of 16 on her way to 20 points. Those 20 points gave Doerr a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Fitzgerald, who posted 12 points.

Defeat or not, Maret got some senior leadership from Kennedy Austin and London Liley. Austin dropped a double-double on 16 points and 17 boards, while Liley scored 23 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Austin's evening made it seven games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nora Dowd, who earned six points.

Georgetown Visitation Prep is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.2 points per game. As for Maret, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 15-7.
