The Northside Mustangs will challenge the Senn Bulldogs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Northside and four for Senn.
Northside came into this matchup off a tough six-run defeat last Thursday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Payton College Prep by a score of 7-5 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Mustangs have suffered against the Grizzlies since May 5, 2016.
Jilliyn Yung was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Yung was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Payton Phoxay was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Ashley Rodriguez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
Senn couldn't beat Lincoln Park on Friday even though they stacked five runs on them in the third inning. The Bulldogs fell 11-6 to the Lions.
Pippa Gerharz made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one triple and one run. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Gabrielle Smith, who went 2-for-4 with two runs.
Senn's defeat dropped their record down to 10-5. As for Northside, their loss dropped their record down to 3-11.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Monday. Northside hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.7 home runs per game. However, it's not like Senn struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Northside took their victory against Senn in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 13-2 score. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
