Basketball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Simmons

Simmons had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 37-31 W against the West Bolivar Eagles. Given the Blue Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while the Eagles are ranked 279th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Simmons was led to victory by Karmen Marshall and Sa'Riyah Alexander. Marshall posted nine points and eight boards, while Alexander scored ten points and six steals. That's the most steals Alexander has posted since back in January of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Vontaria Rush, who earned five points and seven rebounds.

Simmons smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 13 consecutive contests.

Simmons' win bumped their record up to 12-3. As for West Bolivar, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-14.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Simmons will challenge rival Riverside at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, West Bolivar is set to take on their familiar foe Leflore County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
