Basketball Recap: Buchholz Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Taylor Booth and Alessia Chaves-Torres

Buchholz lost against West Port back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Buchholz Bobcats fell 53-40 to the West Port Wolf Pack. While losing is never fun, the Bobcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 191st, while the Wolf Pack are ranked 50th).

Alessia Chaves-Torres and Taylor Booth certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Chaves-Torres went 7 for 17 on her way to 19 points, while Booth posted ten points.

Leading West Port to victory were Aaliyah Grant and Caniyah Graham. Grant dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds, while Graham scored six points and nine steals. The dominant performance also gave Grant a new career-high in assists (four). Calise Smith was another key player, putting up 13 points and six boards.

Buchholz's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 7-12. As for West Port, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-7.

Buchholz wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 57-35 win against Leon on the 1st. As for West Port, they will challenge East Ridge on Thursday. West Port is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.1 points per game this season.
