Basketball Recap: Akol Machteng's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Utica Academy of Science over Little Falls

After flying high against Adirondack last Friday, Utica Academy of Science came back down to earth. The Utica Academy of Science Atoms took a 48-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Little Falls Mounties. The Atoms were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mounties apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2022.

Utica Academy of Science lost on Monday despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Akol Machteng, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. Machteng is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down ten or more in the last ten games he's played dating back to last season. The team also got some help courtesy of Amari Berkley, who went 6 for 8 on his way to 16 points.

Utica Academy of Science has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-5 record this season. As for Little Falls, they pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road.

Utica Academy of Science didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 73-70 victory against Proctor on the 15th. Little Falls has also already played their next match, a 72-42 win against Sauquoit Valley on the 15th.
