Basketball Recap: Mendon Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Ryder Gorham and Owen Gorham

After flying high against Tekonsha last Monday, Mendon came back down to earth. The Mendon Hornets fell 58-51 to the Quincy Orioles on Wednesday. The Hornets have struggled against the Orioles recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Mendon had strong showings from Owen Gorham, who went 6 for 10 en route to 19 points and eight boards, and Ryder Gorham, who posted 19 points and five assists. Owen is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristin Wood, who earned six points.

Even though they lost, Mendon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive matches.

Mendon's loss dropped their record down to 8-8. As for Quincy, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mendon will head out to face off against St. Philip Catholic Central at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. St. Philip Catholic Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Mendon likes a good challenge. As for Quincy, they are taking a road trip to take on Maple Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
