Basketball Game Preview: George Jenkins Eagles vs. Tampa Catholic Crusaders

Two dominant guards in Zakharia Rutledge and Ashley Knox are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The George Jenkins Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Tampa Catholic Crusaders at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The timing isn't great for George Jenkins: they have been struggling with three straight losses at home, while Tampa Catholic has snatched up five consecutive wins on the road dating back to last season.

George Jenkins saw some tournament action last Monday. They took a 48-44 hit to the loss column at the hands of NSU University.

Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Taleah Turner, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. She has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last six times she's played. Rutledge was another key player, going 5 for 8 on her way to 17 points and four steals.

Even though they lost, George Jenkins was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as NSU University only racked up four assists.

Meanwhile, Tampa Catholic was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Monday as they fell 59-55 to San Jose Prep.

George Jenkins' loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Tampa Catholic, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season.
