Preview: Sweeny Bulldogs vs. Iowa Colony Pioneers

Sweeny is 0-3 against Iowa Colony since January of 2023 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Sweeny Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Iowa Colony Pioneers at 7:30 p.m. Sweeny will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 875th, while Iowa Colony is ranked 410th).

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 72-33, which was the final score in Sweeny's tilt against Stafford on Friday.

Sweeny's loss came about despite a quality game from Clinton Varner, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Varner has scored all season.

Meanwhile, Iowa Colony scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They breezed by Columbia at home to the tune of 105-56. Iowa Colony has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 23 points or more this season.

BJ Gill was his usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with five rebounds and five steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Daylen Dalcour, who scored 17 points along with two steals and two blocks.

Sweeny's loss dropped their record down to 16-16. As for Iowa Colony, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 19-14.

Sweeny was taken down by Iowa Colony 96-50 in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Iowa Colony's Chase Wiley, who dropped a triple-double on 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists. Now that Sweeny knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
