Baseball Recap: Sandwich's Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

Sandwich dropped their record down to 13-12 on Saturday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They lost 15-2 to the Wheaton Academy Warriors. The Indians were not able to make up for their defeat to the Warriors from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Wheaton Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games.

For Wheaton Academy's part, Charlie Scherer tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Scherer has become a key player for the Warriors: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one hit, but 11-12 otherwise.

At the plate, Jackson From was a standout: he went 4-for-6 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. He is becoming a predictor of Wheaton Academy's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 10-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Mark Jackson, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sandwich will challenge Marengo at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Wheaton Academy, they will square off against Chicago Christian at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Knights have averaged an impressive 7.5 runs per game this season.
