Football Preview: Downey Vikings vs. Warren Bears
The Downey Vikings will face off against the Warren Bears at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Warren is hoping to do what Dominguez couldn't on Friday: put an end to Downey's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Downey can attribute much of their success to Oscar Rios, who threw for 177 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.3% of his passes, and Bernardo Blanco, who rushed for 88 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Blanco is on a roll when it comes to rushing touchdowns, as he's now punched in two or more in the last three games he's played. A healthy portion of that aerial production (82 yards to be exact) went to Desmin Joshway-Fairley, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.
Meanwhile, Warren got themselves on the board against Bellflower on Friday, but Bellflower never followed suit. They took their matchup at home with ease, bagging a 52-0 win over the Buccaneers. The Bears' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Downey pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Warren, their win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-6.
