Softball Recap: Woodgrove Picks Up Fourth Straight Win at Home

Woodgrove came out on top against Loudoun County on Tuesday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Wolverines put the hurt on the Captains with a sharp 10-0 win. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Captains recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive victory against them.

Virginia Dowell was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Faith Barker, who went 1-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Addie McCullers, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

Woodgrove kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 12-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Woodgrove pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Loudoun County, they moved to 14-5 with that loss, which also ended their eight-game winning streak.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: the Captains beat Woodgrove by a score of 7-3 on Friday.
