Baseball Game Preview: Woodlake Tigers vs. Corcoran Panthers

The Woodlake Tigers will square off against the Corcoran Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Thursday, Woodlake and Farmersville finished up on equal footing with a 13-13 tie.

Meanwhile, Corcoran waltzed into their match on Thursday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Spartans a 10-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won 13 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Corcoran let Brennan Botill and Brayden Espinoza run wild. Botill went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Espinoza went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases Botill has posted since back in March.

Corcoran always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive contests.

Corcoran pushed their record up to 20-4 with the win, which was their eighth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. Woodlake's draw gives them a new season record of 15-8-1.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Woodlake has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Corcoran struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
