Football Recap: Rockingham County Starts Season with Victory Against Southwest Guilford + How To Watch

Rockingham County had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They took down the Southwest Guilford Cowboys 32-16.

Luke Strittmatter was a one-man wrecking crew as he threw for 174 yards and three touchdowns on only ten passes, and also rushed for 116 yards while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. James Thomas was Strittmatter's top target, picking up 50 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Another reason for the win was Rockingham County's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Parker Upchurch, John Perez, and Gauge Rakestraw, who each picked up one sack apiece. Rockingham County received some extra help from Braxton Dillard, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Although Southwest Guilford took the loss, they still got scores from Nehemiah Thompson and Andrian Williams.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rockingham County will look to takes advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they takes on Magna Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Southwest Guilford, they will challenge Western Alamance at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
