Basketball Game Preview: Nunamiut Amaguq vs. Kali Wolverines

Nunamiut has gone a perfect 6-0 against Kali recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Nunamiut Amaguq will welcome the Kali Wolverines at 7:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Nunamiut has four straight wins, Kali has 24 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Nunamiut proved they can win big on Saturday (they won by 41) and on Saturday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Jimmy Huntington 62-59. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Amaguq have posted since January 20th.

Nunamiut got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alexander Galloso out in front who dropped a double-double with 21 points and 11 steals. Galloso has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 14 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Tyler Hugo, who dropped a double-double with 19 points and 21 boards.

Meanwhile, Kali played a tough matchup on February 8th in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Nuiqsut Trapper and fell 76-34. The Wolverines were down 50-30 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Nunamiut pushed their record up to 11-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.5 points over those games. As for Kali, their loss dropped their record down to 0-9.

Everything came up roses for Nunamiut against Kali when the teams last played back in January of 2024, as the squad secured an 86-13 win. Will Nunamiut repeat their success, or does Kali have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
