Football Recap: Eaglecrest Piles Up the Points Against Denver East

While Eaglecrest put up plenty of points on Friday, the same can't be said for Denver East. The Raptors simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Angels 43-0. Given the Raptors' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado football rankings (they are ranked 26th, while the Angels are ranked 96th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

William Brinkman continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 72 yards and one TD, while also throwing for 148 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jack Steiner was Brinkman's top target, picking up 31 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Eaglecrest's run defense was locked in: Denver East could only muster 1.4 yards per carry. While one picked up at least six total tackles, Cameron Bell stood above the rest. He made six total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defended one pass in addition to snagging an interception which he returned one-yard for a touchdown. The dominant display was nothing new: Eaglecrest has now limited their opponent to fewer and fewer yards per carry in three consecutive games.

Eaglecrest didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Adriel Richardson, Noah Fulgham, and Bell picked up one apiece. Bell is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least six every time he's taken the field this season. Fulgham got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Eaglecrest's victory bumped their record up to 3-1. As for Denver East, they dropped their record down to 0-4 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Eaglecrest will host ThunderRidge at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Denver East, they are taking a road trip to challenge Montbello at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Angels will be up against the Warriors' rather soft defense (which has allowed 36 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
