Basketball Recap: Clint Comes Up Short

Clint played a tough game on Tuesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 70-34 loss at the hands of the Ysleta Indians. The defeat continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Indians: they've now lost eight in a row.

Clint's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nathan Calleros, who posted ten points and three steals. That's the most steals Calleros has posted since back in November of 2024. Another player making a difference was Matthew Portillo, who put up nine points.

Azaiah Thompson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Ysleta, going 15 of 32 en route to 41 points in addition to seven boards and four steals. That makes it 19 consecutive games in which Thompson has scored at least a third of Ysleta's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Martin Soria, who had nine points along with seven rebounds and four steals.

Clint's defeat dropped their record down to 4-21. As for Ysleta, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-10 record this season.

Coming up, a feisty cat fight will be fought when the Lions take on the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Clint is facing Fabens at the right time seeing as Fabens is stuck on a nine-game losing streak. As for Ysleta, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Mountain View at 7:30 p.m. Ysleta is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.5 points per game this season.
