Softball Recap: Fort Plain Comes Up Short

Fort Plain came into their game on Monday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They lost 11-5 to the Cobleskill-Richmondville Bulldogs.

Lainie McDuffee spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and nine unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Fort Plain saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daija Suits, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that Suits has hit this season. Another was Ashlynn Hart, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Fort Plain's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Cobleskill-Richmondville, their victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-1.

Looking ahead, Fort Plain will head out to take on Berne-Knox-Westerlo at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cobleskill-Richmondville, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Schoharie at 4:30 p.m.
