The Desert Sunrise Golden Hawks are taking a road trip to face off against the Coronado Dons at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Desert Sunrise has five straight victories, Coronado has seven straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Desert Sunrise's pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Tempe. The result was nothing new for the Golden Hawks, who have now won five games by ten runs or more so far this season.
Leander Vale made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one RBI. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, Desert Sunrise let Jacoby Garcia and Brayden Tracy run wild. Garcia got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Tracy went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those four runs gave Garcia a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ivan Zamoran, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Desert Sunrise always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Coronado might've scored the first runs on Thursday, but it was Dysart who claimed the real prize. The Dons fell just short of the Demons by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Dons have suffered since April 9, 2024.
Alexander Bustamante was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. Bustamante was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Bustamante wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Naem Pacheco, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.
Desert Sunrise pushed their record up to 7-5-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Coronado, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-15.
Monday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Desert Sunrise has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .472. However, it's not like Coronado struggles in that department as they've averaged .443. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
