Baseball Game Preview: Westland Cougars vs. Westerville South Wildcats

For the second straight game, Westland will face off against Westerville South. The Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

Westland was handed a 15-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-2 victory over Westerville South. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted since April 13, 2024.

RJ Burke spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on nine hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Westland's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Moore, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double. Carson Willis was another, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

Westland's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-6. As for Westerville South, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season.
