Volleyball Recap: Durham Academy Snags Ninth Victory in Last Ten Games

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against New Life Camp, Durham Academy was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Ravenscroft Ravens, sneaking past 3-2. The game was the first time the Cavaliers have beaten the Ravens on their court since October 7, 2022.

Durham Academy took Ravenscroft into a fifth set where they got it done with a two-point win. The final score came out to 25-12, 25-17, 22-25, 25-27, 15-13.

Durham Academy found their leader in freshman Alice Chen, who had 20 digs and five aces. Chen is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had ten or more in each of the last 13 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nafas Hayati, who had 11 digs and one assist.

Ravenscroft's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Sammey Malik, who had 11 digs, and Erika Larson, who had 28 kills and 12 digs.

Durham Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-5 record this season. As for Ravenscroft, with the defeat, they broke their three-match winning streak and moved their record to 11-7.

Durham Academy has already played their next matchup, a 3-1 loss against North Raleigh Christian Academy on the 7th. As for Ravenscroft, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Wesleyan Christian Academy on the 6th.
