The Erie Tigers will head out to face off against the Silver Creek Raptors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Erie is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Erie earned a 5-1 victory over Brighton.
Maddox Burnett made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out ten batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Burnett was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ronin Ward, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-3. Taylor McMaster was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Silver Creek got the win against Skyline on Wednesday by a conclusive 8-2. The Raptors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by six runs or more this season.
Silver Creek also got a great performance from Nolan Gaccetta as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over six innings pitched. Gaccetta has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Nathen Canfield was a standout: he went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Silver Creek's success: when he posts at least three RBI the team is undefeated (and 3-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Simpson, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Erie is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Silver Creek, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Tuesday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Erie has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .448. However, it's not like Silver Creek struggles in that department as they've averaged .440. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Erie took their victory against Silver Creek in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 by a conclusive 13-3 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
