Baseball Recap: Hazel Park Comes Up Short

Hazel Park extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping them down to 13-12. They came up short against the New Haven Rockets, falling 20-0. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Rockets this season, with their most recent defeat being a 16-1 loss on Thursday.

Hazel Park saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Austin Small, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

As for New Haven, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 16-4-1. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by seven runs or more this season.

On New Haven's side, Eddie Knuckey made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, Knuckey posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Josh Nugent was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with one home run and seven RBI. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Connor Abuan, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Hazel Park will venture away from home to take on Mott at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for New Haven, they will head out to square off against Yale at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rockets 2.8, the Bulldogs 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
