Baseball Recap: Kasson-Mantorville Starts Season with Victory at Home

Kasson-Mantorville gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They had just enough and edged out the Byron Bears 5-4. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Quinn Weis tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits.

At the plate, Brooks Irish was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Braden Lawrence was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Having lost for the first time this season, Byron fell to 2-1.
