Football Recap: South Mountain Takes a Loss + How To Watch

South Mountain fell victim to Verrado and their airtight defense on Friday. They took a blow against the Vipers, falling 55-0. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona football rankings (they are ranked 168th, while the Vipers are ranked 40th).

It was another big night for Malachi Wilt, who threw for 352 yards and six touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes for Verrado. What's more, Wilt racked up 166.7 passer rating, the most he's had since back in September of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Carter Bliss, who picked up 73 receiving yards and three TDs.

South Mountain dropped their record down to 0-5 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Verrado, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1.

South Mountain and Verrado will both get their first taste of in-conference action in their upcoming games. The Jaguars will take on rival Camelback at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Verrado is set to face off against their familiar foe Millennium at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
