Basketball Game Preview: Taft Raiders vs. Sotomayor WILDCATS

Taft is 0-5 against Sotomayor since November of 2022 but things could change on Saturday. The Taft Raiders will head out on the road to square off against the Sotomayor WILDCATS at 11:00 a.m. That contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Taylor Olson and Jordan Pete.

Taft lost 59-34 to Warren on Wednesday. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 893rd, while the Warriors are ranked 147th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sotomayor). They really took it to Stevens for the full four quarters, racking up an 83-10 victory. The WILDCATS have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight games by 22 points or more this season.

The win was the third in a row for Sotomayor, bringing their record for this year to 14-7. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 39 points. As for Taft, their loss dropped their record down to 9-14.

Taft lost to Sotomayor on the road by a decisive 49-32 margin when the teams last played back in February. Can Taft avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
