Softball Recap: Kankakee Valley Picks Up Fourth Straight Win at Home

Kankakee Valley had won four straight at home dating back to last season, but on Thursday they bumped their record up to 6-3 to make it five. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Pioneer Panthers a 3-0 shutout. The Kougars haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

The result came thanks to Kyli Page's shutout, as she gave up just five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kankakee Valley saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mallorie Rose, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Julia Mahmet was another, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run.

As for Pioneer, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. The game marked the first time this year in which they were not able to get on the board.

On Pioneer's side, Lois Layer was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Layer was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two doubles.

Kankakee Valley didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 5-1 defeat against Lowell on the 28th. As for Pioneer, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 23-0 victory against Tippecanoe Valley on the 26th.
