Softball Recap: Morgantown Takes Down Ranked Weir

Morgantown faced Weir in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Mohigans came out on top against the Red Riders by a score of 4-1. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mohigans also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2023.

MADISON WISMAN made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, KIRA SMITH was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season. LIZ ALSOP was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Morgantown is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Weir, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 9-4.

Looking ahead, Morgantown will face off against Wheeling Park at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Weir, they will square off against Brooke at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Riders are facing the Bruins at the right time seeing as the Bruins are stuck on a 15-game losing streak.
