Softball Game Preview: Damonte Ranch Mustangs vs. McQueen Lancers

The Damonte Ranch Mustangs will venture away from home to challenge the McQueen Lancers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Damonte Ranch has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Damonte Ranch lost 13-4 to Reed on Friday. The Mustangs haven't had much luck with the Raiders recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Olivia Mares made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances. She also got a hit, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Madeline Wackowski, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.

Meanwhile, McQueen faced Carson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Lancers walked away with a 6-3 win over the Senators. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Lancers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Violet Moyao spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on eight hits.

At the plate, McQueen's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Vanessa Bein, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Lilly Fanene was another, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

McQueen hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive matches.

McQueen's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 6-7. As for Damonte Ranch, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.
