Softball Recap: St. Albans Red Dragons vs. South Charleston Black Eagles

St. Albans put the finishing touches on their ninth blowout victory of the season on Friday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the South Charleston Black Eagles an 8-0 shutout. The win was nothing new for St. Albans as they're now sitting on seven straight.

Ava Bentley made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Bentley has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive pitching appearances. Bentley was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Kiersten Lacy was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

On South Charleston's side, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Frye, who went 1-for-3 with a double.

St. Albans' victory was their 11th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-3. As for South Charleston, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-11.

St. Albans will head out on the road to take on Lincoln County at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for South Charleston, they will head out on the road to face off against Sherman at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sherman's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so South Charleston's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
