Baseball Recap: Lake Nona Comes Up Short

Lake Nona was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Harmony Longhorns. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Longhorns apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.

Tanner Pielock was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had over his last five contests.

At the plate, Lake Nona saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Andres Segura, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Lake Nona's defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-6. As for Harmony, the victory (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 12-1.

Lake Nona and Harmony should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Lake Nona (ranked 122nd) will meet Olympia (ranked 247th) at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Lake Nona's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Harmony's hitters will have their work cut out for them. Similarly, Harmony will face off against St. Cloud at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday up 168 places (30 vs. 198).
