Basketball Game Preview: Deer Lakes Lancers vs. Highlands Golden Rams

Deer Lakes is 0-8 against Highlands since January of 2015 but things could change on Friday. The Deer Lakes Lancers will take on the Highlands Golden Rams at 7:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Deer Lakes is headed into the game having just posted their closest victory since January 30th on Saturday. It was close, but they capped 2024 with a 73-70 win over Indiana. Given the Lancers' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while the Little Indians are ranked 452nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Highlands was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They received a blow as they fell 69-55 to Shaler Area.

Deer Lakes has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.8 points per game. As for Highlands, their loss dropped their record down to 1-7.

Deer Lakes came up short against Highlands in their previous meeting back in February, falling 70-65. Can Deer Lakes avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
