League recap: Free breaks off league-leading run for Sharon-Mutual

C District 1 (8 Man) recap Oct. 3, 2012

Cooper Free of Sharon-Mutual ran for the longest rushing play in C District 1 (8 Man) this season against Boise City last week. Free's team defeated the Wildcats as he sprinted for 68 yards on the play and finished with 140 in all.

Tyrone was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after beating Shattuck 52-30. The Bobcats came in at 25 in the state poll after placing at number 34 last week.

Sharon-Mutual's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Free threw for 119 and one touchdown and Cody Campbell had 55 yards receiving. Dustin Baker helped Sharon-Mutual's passing attack out by catching three balls for 45 yards.

Baker made the biggest impact on defense this week as Chris Syms's team bested Boise City. The 5-foot-10 senior grabbed one interception.

Sharon-Mutual's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Trojans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Free has thrown for 723 yards and eight touchdowns this season, while Campbell has 26 catches for 388 yards. Free also leads the league in rushing with 495 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when the Trojans take on Waynoka. Sharon-Mutual is currently in second, while the Railroaders are in sixth.

Waynoka was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to sixth in C District 1 (8 Man). Scott Kysar's team defeated Goodwell/Yarbrough 66-22 earlier in the week.
