Recap: North Eugene Highlanders vs. Thurston Colts

The North Eugene Highlanders had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.8 points), and they went ahead and made it seven on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged Thurston out 58-56. Given North Eugene's advantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked seventh, while Thurston is ranked 101st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

North Eugene's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but India Mohiuddin led the charge by scoring 20 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Elias McKinnis, who scored 12 points.

North Eugene's victory was their 14th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-2. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.0 points per game. As for Thurston, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. North Eugene will square off against Eagle Point at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Thurston will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Crater at 6:45 p.m. on January 26th. Crater knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully Thurston likes a good challenge.
