Basketball Recap: Gretna Comes Up Short

Gretna was the 59-46 winner over Nelson County when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Gretna Hawks took a 56-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Nelson County Governors on Saturday.

Nelson County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Bryce Giles, who dropped a double-double with 22 points and 12 boards. The contest was Giles' eighth in a row with at least 15 points. Colton Ward was another key player, dropping a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds.

Gretna's loss dropped their record down to 18-5. As for Nelson County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Gretna and Nelson County are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Gretna will be playing in front of their home fans against Radford at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Nelson County, they will host Appomattox County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in Nelson County's favor as the team sits on seven straight wins at home while Appomattox County has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
