Baseball Recap: Jim Thorpe Snaps Three-Game Streak of Losses at Home

The Jim Thorpe Olympians beat the Catasauqua Rough Riders 4-1 on Monday.

The team relied heavily on Brody Schrantz, who scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Jim Thorpe's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-3 when he doesn't). Michael Antignani also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Jim Thorpe's win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-4. As for Catasauqua, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the defeat, which was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, Jim Thorpe will challenge Moravian Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Olympians are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a ten-game losing streak. As for Catasauqua, they will square off against Lehighton at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Rough Riders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 11.7 runs per game this season.
