Softball Recap: Union Has No Trouble Against South Summit

Union lost a heartbreaker the last time they played South Summit, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's match. Union put the hurt on South Summit with a sharp 11-2 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Cougars have won seven games by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Haylee Moynier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Teddy Oleen was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 5-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Charlee Kesler also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Union was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .486. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Summit only posted a batting average of .154.

The win made it two in a row for Union and bumps their season record up to 10-4. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for South Summit, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.

Coincidentally, Union and South Summit will both be playing Ben Lomond the next time they take the field. South Summit will head out to face Ben Lomond at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, while Union will host them at 3:30 p.m. on April 9.
