Softball Game Preview: Starmount Rams vs. Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles

The Starmount Rams will challenge the Uwharrie Charter Academy Eagles on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Starmount is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They skirted past Rosman 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Rams have posted since April 4th.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Uwharrie Charter Academy). They were the clear victors by a 20-2 margin over Bradford Prep on Tuesday. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.

Katelyn West made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

In other batting news, Uwharrie Charter Academy got a massive performance out of Carly Rush, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That home run was Rush's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ryley Thompson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Uwharrie Charter Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .300 or higher in four consecutive games.

Starmount has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Uwharrie Charter Academy, they pushed their record up to 13-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.
