Softball Recap: Milford Has No Trouble Against Springboro

Milford got themselves on the board against Springboro on Saturday, but Springboro never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 6-0 margin over the Panthers. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matchups by six runs or more this season.

Meghan McClellan made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Milford let Lanie McCoy and Maddie Varner run wild. McCoy went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI, while Varner went 1-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Varner has hit this season.

The victory made it two in a row for Milford and bumps their season record up to 8-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 1 runs in those games. As for Springboro, the defeat snapped their winning streak at eight games and leaves them with a 11-4 record.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Milford will host Mount Notre Dame at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Springboro, they will be playing at home against Miamisburg at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Vikings have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.54 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
