Cristo Rey St. Martin took down Woodlands Academy 43-27 on Friday. For Cristo Rey St. Martin, this counts as revenge for the 33-32 loss Woodlands Academy walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
Cristo Rey St. Martin found their leader in underclassman Alexy Chapa, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it eight consecutive games in which Chapa has scored at least a third of Cristo Rey St. Martin's points. Another player making a difference was Ianna Young, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Despite the loss, Woodlands Academy saw an underclassman step up: Lucy Petherbridge scored six points along with six rebounds.
Cristo Rey St. Martin pushed their record up to 5-4 with that win, which was their third straight at home. As for Woodlands Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 8-12.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cristo Rey St. Martin will stay at home for another game and welcome Beacon Academy at 5:30 p.m. on February 6th. Beacon Academy comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse. As for Woodlands Academy, they will be playing at home against Regina Dominican at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Regina Dominican presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Woodlands Academy in Illinois (Regina Dominican is ranked 195th, while Woodlands Academy is ranked 570th).
