Volleyball Recap: Coral Gables Takes Down Palmetto in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Coral Gables had no trouble coming through when it counted. They won by a set and slipped past the Palmetto Panthers 3-2. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 2-0 win two weeks ago.

Coral Gables was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The match finished with set scores of 18-25, 25-15, 25-27, 25-18, 15-13.

Natasha Macau paced Coral Gables' offense, picking up 26 kills. Macau got some help from Corina McDanal and her 52 assists. Bianca Benson controlled things from the service line, finishing with six aces.

Despite the loss, Palmetto saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Carmela Rosenburg had 22 digs and three assists. Rosenburg has been hot recently, having posted 11 or more digs the last four times she's played.

Coral Gables has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. As for Palmetto, their defeat ended a six-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 16-10.

Coral Gables wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-2 victory against Coral Reef on the 22nd. As for Palmetto, they have also already played their next matchup, a 3-0 win against Stoneman Douglas on the 22nd.
