Soccer Game Preview: Northside vs. Kashmere

The Northside Panthers will face off against the Kashmere Fighting Rams at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Northside will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Northside's defense heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They blew past Mickey Leland College Preparatory Academy for Young Men 5-0. Give Northside's defense some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

Ulises Quintero, who's played more minutes than anyone else on the Northside squad sat out for Wednesday's matchup. With Quintero sidelined, Northside had to make some big changes to the lineup. Three players got more time on the pitch than they're used to: Sergio Ortega (70), Miguel Medina (80), and Cristian Rodriguez (80). The trio had averaged 46, 50, and 57.5 minutes respectively before Wednesday's match. Ortega made the most of the opportunity, scoring two goals A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.

Meanwhile, Kashmere had to hit the road for their first game and it wasn't the result they were hoping for. They lost 7-1 to Worthing last Wednesday. The loss continues a trend for Kashmere in their meetings with Worthing: they've now lost five in a row.

Northside's victory bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Kashmere, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.

Northside beat Kashmere 2-0 when the teams last played back in February of 2025. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Fighting Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
