Preview: Steward Spartans vs. Peninsula Catholic Knights
Steward is 8-1 against Peninsula Catholic since February of 2017, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Steward Spartans' homestand continues as they prepare to take on the Peninsula Catholic Knights at 7:00 p.m. on February 8th. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Tuesday, Steward earned a 59-50 win over Nansemond-Suffolk Academy.
Donovan Richardson was his usual excellent self, scoring 22 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Fisher Sprouse, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Peninsula Catholic entered their tilt with Cape Henry Collegiate with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Peninsula Catholic blew past Cape Henry Collegiate 93-44 at home on Tuesday. Given Peninsula Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while Cape Henry Collegiate is ranked 166th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Steward's victory bumped their record up to 13-9. As for Peninsula Catholic, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 games, which provided a massive bump to their 19-8 record this season.
Steward beat Peninsula Catholic 69-56 when the teams last played back in March of 2023. Does Steward have another victory up their sleeve, or will Peninsula Catholic turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
