Basketball Game Preview: Saugatuck Trailblazers vs. Martin Clippers

Saugatuck and Martin are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2019, but not for long. The Saugatuck Trailblazers will look to defend their home court on Friday against the Martin Clippers at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Saugatuck has four straight wins, Martin has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Last Tuesday, Saugatuck didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Constantine, but they still walked away with a 45-40 victory. Given the Trailblazers' advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while the Falcons are ranked 325th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Martin took a blow against Kalamazoo Christian on Tuesday, falling 50-14. The contest marked the Clippers' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Martin's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Saugatuck, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-1.

Saugatuck took their victory against Martin when the teams last played back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 44-24. Will Saugatuck repeat their success, or does Martin have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
