Preview: Carnegie Wildcats vs. Wewoka Tigers

The Carnegie Wildcats will be home for the holidays to greet the Wewoka Tigers at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Carnegie will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Oklahoma Rankings (they are ranked 269th, while Wewoka is ranked 35th).

Carnegie's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Fort Cobb-Broxton 56-28. Carnegie has struggled against Fort Cobb-Broxton recently, as their match on Friday was their third consecutive lost matchup.

Carnegie's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Elvira Lopez, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds, and Karlee Tahkofper who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Tahkofper scored a full 35.7% of Carnegie's points, the seventh time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Carnegie struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Wewoka didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Holdenville on Tuesday, but they still walked away with a 50-45 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Wewoka.

Wewoka's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Timber Carter, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 14 rebounds. The game was Carter's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Awtumn Sipes-Louie, who scored 20 points along with six rebounds.

Carnegie's loss was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-5. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 29.7 points per game. As for Wewoka, their win bumped their record up to 6-1.

This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Carnegie have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 28.8 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Wewoka, though, as they've been averaging only 28.1 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
