Basketball Recap: Breanna Thieman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sunshine Bible Academy over North Central

Sunshine Bible Academy played a tough matchup on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They lost 49-25 to the North Central Thunder. The Crusaders have struggled against the Thunder recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Sunshine Bible Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Breanna Thieman, who posted nine points and three steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. Ciera Mickelson was another key player, putting up six points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Sunshine Bible Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Central only eight offensive rebounds.

North Central was led to victory by Amree Vander Vorst and Ella Batie. Vander Vorst en route to 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals, while Batie on her way to 14 points along with six boards and six steals. North Central is 11-1 when Vander Vorst posts three or more steals, but 3-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Alaina Dosch, who had eight points and three steals.

Sunshine Bible Academy's loss dropped their record down to 4-14. As for North Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season.

Sunshine Bible Academy has already played their next contest, a 57-33 defeat against Ipswich on the 24th. As for North Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 44-42 loss against Herreid/Selby on the 25th.
