Basketball Game Preview: Providence Catholic Celtics vs. Providence-St. Mel Knights

The Providence Catholic Celtics will head out on the road to square off against the Providence-St. Mel Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Providence Catholic is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.

Providence Catholic is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Brother Rice on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Providence Catholic was dealt a 69-29 defeat at the hands of Brother Rice. The Celtics were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 44-13.

Meanwhile, Providence-St. Mel had to suffer through a 64-37 loss at the hands of Saint Ignatius College Prep. While losing is never fun, the Knights can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 380th, while the Wolfpack are ranked 39th).

Providence Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Providence-St. Mel, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 7-8.

Everything came up roses for Providence Catholic against Providence-St. Mel when the teams last played back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 68-39 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Providence Catholic since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
