Baseball Game Preview: Northfield Nighthawks vs. Overland Trailblazers

The Northfield Nighthawks are taking a road trip to take on the Overland Trailblazers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Northfield will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak.

It was a classic North v. South duel when Northfield faced off against Denver South on Friday. The Nighthawks came out on top against the Ravens by a score of 8-5.

Adler Hickey tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched.

On the hitting side, Northfield let Jose Fernando La Cruz Romero and Jack Phiel run wild. La Cruz Romero scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Phiel scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4. That's the most stolen bases Phiel has posted since back in April of 2024. Eli Jackson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Meanwhile, Overland came up short against Gateway on Thursday, falling 17-7.

Edwardo Colon made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole six bases. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Ramirez, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.

Northfield pushed their record up to 8-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Overland, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Saturday. Northfield hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 1.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Overland struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs.
