Coginchaug Regional hasn't had much luck against Hale Ray recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Blue Devils will venture away from home to take on the Noises at 5:30 p.m.
On Thursday, Coginchaug Regional came up short against Old Lyme and fell 3-1. While the Blue Devils didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Wildcats 25-20 in the first set.
Coginchaug Regional started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 20-25, 25-15, 25-14, 25-18.
Meanwhile, Hale Ray posted their closest win since October 26, 2024 on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against North Branford, sneaking past 3-2. The Noises haven't had any issues with the Thunderbirds recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
It was an exciting match in which no team won back-to-back sets, but at the end of the day Hale Ray got the one that really mattered. The final score came out to 25-9, 22-25, 25-22, 17-25, 15-12.
Coginchaug Regional better focus on containing Fenway Jankowski and Maggie Janecek as the pair were huge in Hale Ray's win. Jankowski had 14 digs, while Janecek had 34 digs and three assists. Janecek is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 11 or more in each of the last seven games she's played. Elyse Taylor also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assists of the season.
Hale Ray was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 21 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Coginchaug Regional's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Hale Ray, their record now sits at 9-2.
Coginchaug Regional might still be hurting after the 3-0 defeat they got from Hale Ray when the teams last played on September 8th. Can the Blue Devils avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
