Softball Game Preview: West Vigo Vikings vs. Linton-Stockton Miners

The West Vigo Vikings will square off against the Linton-Stockton Miners at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

West Vigo is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let Sullivan get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. The victory was familiar territory for the Vikings, who have now won three games in a row.

Not much got past Jaleigh Lindley, who gave up just three hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Sullivan off the board. Lindley has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, West Vigo let Lily Krause and Briley Jones run wild. Krause went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs, while Jones went 4-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Those two doubles gave Jones a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ariana Elkins, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

West Vigo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .474. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sullivan only posted a batting average of .125.

Meanwhile, Linton-Stockton got the win against South Knox on Tuesday by a conclusive 17-5. The win continues a trend for the Miners in their matchups with the Spartans: they've now won three in a row.

West Vigo's victory bumped their record up to 23-3. As for Linton-Stockton, their win bumped their record up to 17-11.

West Vigo was able to grind out a solid victory over Linton-Stockton in their previous matchup last Monday, winning 5-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
